What is Feng Shui? And Why it Matters.

Feng Shui. (Fang Schway? Fung Shooey?)

Feng Shui, pronounced “fung schway,” is an ancient Chinese practice that has been around for centuries. The basic concept of feng shui is based on the idea that the environment in which we live has a significant impact on our lives. Feng shui is a system that helps to balance the energies in our environment to promote health, wealth, and happiness.

There are many reasons why feng shui is important. Here are a few of them:

  1. Improves energy flow: Feng shui helps to improve the flow of energy in our environment. By removing clutter, arranging furniture in a certain way, and adding certain elements to our environment, we can create a more harmonious and balanced space. When energy flows freely, it can have a positive impact on our physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

  2. Creates a peaceful environment: Feng shui helps to create a peaceful and calming environment. When we are surrounded by chaos and clutter, it can be difficult to relax and focus. By creating a space that is organized and clutter-free, we can reduce stress and anxiety and improve our overall sense of well-being. 3. Enhances prosperity: Feng shui is also known for its ability to enhance prosperity. By arranging furniture and adding certain elements to our environment, we can attract wealth and abundance into our lives. This can include adding plants, water features, and symbols of prosperity to our space.

  4. Promotes good health: Feng shui can also help to promote good health. By creating a space that is free from negative energy and promotes positive energy flow, we can boost our immune system, reduce stress, and improve our overall health and well-being.

There are many different schools of feng shui, classical, form-school, BTB (Western feng shui), and others. Here at Sacred Lifestyle Feng Shui, I practice Classical feng shui.

Classical feng shui is a traditional Chinese system of feng shui that has been around for thousands of years. It is based on the belief that by understanding and harnessing the flow of energy, or qi, within our environment, we can promote health, prosperity, and success.

Classical feng shui is a comprehensive and complex system that takes into account many different factors in order to create a harmonious and balanced environment. This includes the layout and orientation of a building, the surrounding environment, and the interaction between the two. It also takes into account, the personal feng shui of the individual and how that person’s energy interacts with the environment.

One of the key principles of classical feng shui is the concept of the bagua, which is a map used to divide a space into nine sections, each representing a different aspect of life. These include wealth, health, relationships, creativity, and more. By using the bagua, feng shui practitioners can identify areas of the home or workplace that may be affecting a person's well-being and success, and recommend remedies to address any imbalances. The bagua, in classical feng shui, is based on the actual compass directions rather than the placement of the front door. In a feng shui consultation, the bagua is overlayed on a floor plan to determine what feng shui remedies/cures are needed and how to activate specific sections depending on the individual’s needs.

Another important aspect of classical feng shui is the analysis of the five elements (water, wood, fire, earth, and metal) and how they interact with each other. Each element has its own characteristics and associations, and understanding these can help to create a harmonious and balanced environment. For example, the water element is associated with flow and movement and can be used to enhance career success and financial prosperity.

Classical feng shui also takes into account the influence of external factors on a building, such as the location of nearby mountains, bodies of water, or roads. This external influence is known as the “form” of the environment, and can greatly affect the flow of energy within a space.

Overall, classical feng shui is a complex and comprehensive system that takes into account many different factors in order to create a balanced and harmonious environment. Its principles have been used for thousands of years to promote health, prosperity, and success, and continue to be used today as a way to enhance the well-being of individuals and communities. Whether you are looking to improve your health, enhance your relationships, or achieve financial success, classical feng shui offers a holistic and powerful approach to creating a harmonious and balanced environment.
